The mission of the Friendship 9 Scholarship Fund is to accelerate the progress of African Americans into the mainstream of leadership in civic affairs, government, business, education and other professions, while instilling in young people a strong dedication to leadership and public service.

Originally founded and privately funded by members of the Friendship 9, with support from individual donors, the Friendship 9 Scholarship Program has made minimal scholarship contributions in the past. Now, The Friendship 9 organization is preparing to expand its focus and commitment to awarding college scholarships to outstanding African American students to honor the legacy of service and social consciousness, which was at the core of the “Jail, No Bail” movement.

The Friendship 9 Scholarship Fund will operate as a public 501(c)3 charity as allowed by the IRS. The fund will dispense awards annually to deserving high school seniors that plan to attend accredited colleges and universities.
